Wonderfully Imperfect

What makes it different

We could have smoothed away the rough edges. We chose to keep them — they're exactly why a stay here feels like nowhere else.

The Road

Wonderfully unpaved

The Road

You reach us on an old mud road that the monsoon redraws every year. We've chosen to keep it that way — natural, unpaved, a little wild. The rough last mile is where the noise drops away; it keeps the crowds out and the wilderness in. Getting here is the first part of switching off.

The House

Honestly old-style

The House

This is a genuine old Kumaoni home, with its bathrooms set a little apart from the rooms — exactly how these houses were built and lived in for generations. We've preserved that heritage instead of erasing it. The washrooms are spotless, modern-clean and properly hygienic; what's rare is the authenticity — a way of living you simply won't find in a new-build hotel.

Coming up? A few honest things to know

The mud road, power and signal in the hills, real wildlife (yes, leopards) and how cold it gets — read this before you travel, and you'll be all set.

The wider welcome

Hospitality from a whole village

You don't visit Kunja. Kunja receives you.

A stay here isn't hosted by one family — it's hosted by a whole village. Every home is a doorway, every neighbour a host. The warmth you feel is something the entire community offers, together.

Explore the village

Sleep under the stars

We aren't a hospitality chain. We built these camps to welcome guests the way we'd want to be welcomed — with home-cooked Kumaoni food by the bonfire, warm tents, and the unhurried rhythm of life in the hills.

Come camp with us

Two ways in — both easy

Simra Izar is a small, hosted campsite, not a hotel — so a stay is arranged personally, never a faceless booking. There are two ways in, and honestly, both are simple.

Friends of the camp

New here? Come anyway

Not in the circle yet — that's completely fine. Send us a note about you and your trip, and we'll find you a window. No queues, no gatekeeping, no catch.
